In March 2023, Yan Ting and Wen Zhe invited friends from different school orchestras to play together for an event. The group took the stage with a memorable closing act, performing Schubert’s "Death and the Maiden" and Corelli’s "La Folia."
The experience was so enjoyable that they decided to create something lasting from it. Together, they founded Footnotes Ensemble and invited their friends to join them.
Footnotes Ensemble was not content with being just another quartet or chamber music group. They wanted to set themselves apart by their creativity. This inspired them to bring their audiences a cinematic experience alongside their music. To achieve this they brought on Murphy who had a background in videography.
Months of preparation led to this defining moment. The release of "Death and the Maiden" was more than just a debut—it showed that what Footnotes Ensemble wanted to achieve was possible. It set the stage for a series of future projects, each one pushing their creative limits further.
Our journey is far from over. As Footnotes Ensemble continues to grow, we’re constantly exploring new ideas and pushing our creative boundaries. Stay tuned—there are many more exciting projects to come!
